Lexxe is a new search engine aiming for the third generation. The difference compared to standard search engines is that when you search for something, Lexxe will give you a complete response. Instead of returning a list of links, Lexxe gives you an answer. Yes, think about it: an answer to questions!

On the other hand, you have to ask... in English... but you get to choose between the English of India or of New Zealand! And if possible in the form of an "Affirmative Question" that can be answered, simply, by 'yes' or 'no'. Better still, there is the answer "don't know" which shows that the engines knows its own limitations. By the way, in addition to the answer, standard links are provided to enrich your search. And keywords or expressions associated with the subject allow you to refine or expand your search. Thus, for the question "Who is the president of France?," you will find links on Jacques Chirac or on the history of France.

How does it work? The official documentation reminds us that the founder of Lexxe is a linguist who works on the comprehension by machines of complex sentences and the description of human syntax.

Unlike Google searches, one should use the smallest number of words possible (max 10). By the way, again in contrast to the standard searches, one is advised to use very 'ordinary' words. For example, it is better to use the word 'color' than the words 'coloration', 'shade', 'nuance', and other synonyms...

The advertised rate of correct answers is 85%. That's what I wanted to know, using my own examples. On predefined questions, such as "Did Bill Gates marry Melinda French?" or "Do crocodiles lay eggs", the answer 'yes' is found very easily. In addition, for questions where the answer is found very easily in Wikipedia, Ask.com or the functions defined by Search engine, Lexxe displays very neat results. Thus, it finds easily that the president of France is Jacques Chirac, that the French revolution took place in 1789, or that a rabbit is an animal.

However, I was tempted by an example question "Will Paris host the 2012 Olympic Games?", to which the answer comes as immutable as an IOC judge: 'No'. On the same question applied to London: London will get the Olympic Games. On the other hand, if the same question is put without specifying the year 2012, the engine tells you that Madrid and Paris will organize the Games... !

Since polling tools are now in fashion, I suggest you try the following questions:

"Is Chirac president of France?" The answer returned is "yes".

"ls Ségolène president of France?" The answer is "no".

"Is Sarkozy president of France?" the answer is "yes"! However, it is qualified by the topic of the links returned: Good Politicians Pursue Bad Policies !!!
